Abstract:

   The waqf in the language is confinement, and from this is the view that the house stood up: holding it for the sake of Allaah, and the meaning of ablution is not to be inherited, sold or given, but it leaves its origin and makes its fruit for the sake of Allaah. The expression of the waqf was used as words of imprisonment or imprisonment, stopping and stopping the act, stopping and imprisoning the name, and gathering on the waqf and hobbous, and the waqf.       Recent studies on Islamic civilization have confirmed the contribution of Awqaf to the development of education and the flourishing of the Islamic movement, the extent of the endowments contribution to the development of education and the prosperity of the Islamic movement. Education, culture and scientific research have been specialized in the Islamic Waqf, since the beginning of education takes the model of the school independent of the houses of worship since the time of the Islamic Caliphate Abbasid. Awqaf funds have been the main source of scientific and cultural activity in Islamic civilization, where Waqf has become the Ministry of Education in our time. The endowment of education has been divided into schools and library endowments. today in Maghreb is called Ahbbase.

إن الوقف في اللغة هو الحبس ومنه قولهم وقفت الدار: حبستها في سبيل الله، ومعنى تحبيسه  ألا يورث  ولا يباع ولا يوهب، ولكن يترك أصله، ويجعل ثمره في سبيل الله  عز وجل". وقد استعمل الفقهاء  مادتي" حبس" و" وقف" في التعبير عن الوقف فاستعملت كلمات حبس أو أحبس ووقف و أوقف للفعل ووقف وحبس للاسم، وجمعت على أوقاف وأحباس.  ولا تزال الأوقاف إلى اليوم في بلاد المغرب تسمى أحباسا.

أكدت الدراسات الحديثة التي تناولت الحضارة الإسلامية مدى مساهمة الأوقاف في تنمية التعليم وازدهار الحركة الإسلامية، مدى مساهمة الأوقاف في تنمية التعليم وازدهار الحركة الإسلامية. فالتعليم والثقافة والبحث العلمي تخصصت بها الأوقاف الإسلامية، منذ أن بدأ التعليم يتخذ نموذج  المدرسة المستقلة عن دور العبادة منذ عهد الخلافة الإسلامية العباسية. فأموال الأوقاف كانت المورد الأساسي للنشاط العلمي والثقافي في الحضارة الإسلامية حيث أصبحت الأوقاف بمثابة وزارة التعليم في زماننا وانقسمت أوقاف التعليم إلى أوقاف المدارس وأوقاف المكتبات .
