FAO Global Conference on Agri-Food Biotechnologies
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is organizing the Global Conference on Agri-Food Biotechnologies under the theme “Biotechnologies for a Sustainable Future: Driving the Transformation of Agri-Food Systems” from June 16 to 18, 2025, in Rome, Italy.
As part of this Conference, FAO has launched a call for poster abstracts highlighting the latest advances, opportunities, and risks of biotechnologies for transforming agri-food systems. Abstracts, to be submitted online by April 30, 2025, will be considered for presentation as electronic posters at the Conference, with no funding required for participation.
Furthermore, FAO plans to organize the Biotechnology Innovation Challenge alongside this Conference, as part of its 80th anniversary, to highlight the work of young scientists and innovators under the age of 35. This competition aims to identify biotechnological advances in various agrifood sectors that offer solutions to improve production and nutrition, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen the resilience of agrifood systems, particularly for smallholder farmers in developing countries. The three selected applications will present their innovations at the Conference, with financial support from FAO for travel and accommodation costs.
The FAO Representation in Algeria indicates that the deadline for responding online to this call is May 2, 2025. The deadline for registering for the Conference is May 5, 2025.
