ومن خلال فرقه البحثية الخمس، يشتغل المخبر على جملة من المحاور الكبرى التي تمثّل ركائز لفهم تحوّلات المنطقة. فهو يعالج تاريخها الاقتصادي والاجتماعي في فترات ما قبل الحديثة، ويستكشف مسارات التبادل العلمي والثقافي التي أسهمت في بناء جسور المعرفة بين الشرق والغرب. كما يدرس ديناميات العلاقات الدولية في العصر الحديث والمعاصر، ويعتني بفهم التنوّعات الثقافية والروحية التي شكّلت هوية الغرب المتوسطي، فضلاً عن تحليل قضايا الدولة الحديثة في الجزائر، وربطها بسياقها الإقليمي ومتطلبات صناعة القرار.
ويسعى المخبر إلى أن يكون منصة أكاديمية ريادية، تحتضن البحث المتعدد التخصصات، وتشجع على الابتكار المنهجي، وتفتح آفاق التعاون بين الباحثين محليًا ودوليًا. كما يطمح إلى إنتاج معرفة رصينة تُسهم في تفسير الإرث المتوسطي المشترك، وربط الماضي بالحاضر، واستشراف آفاق المستقبل بما يخدم التنمية العلمية والثقافية.
إنّ المخبر، وهو يضع بين يدي الباحثين هذا الفضاء العلمي، يؤكّد التزامه بدعم كل المبادرات البحثية الجادة التي تعلي من شأن الدقة العلمية، وتثري الحوار الأكاديمي، وتعيد الاعتبار لمكانة الجزائر داخل محيطها المتوسطي.

Le Laboratoire « Algérie et Bassin Occidental de la Méditerranée » a l’honneur d’ouvrir à ses visiteurs un espace scientifique où se conjuguent rigueur académique, ambition intellectuelle et ouverture pluridisciplinaire. Situé au cœur d’une région qui fut, à travers les siècles, un carrefour de civilisations, un théâtre d’échanges économiques et culturels, ainsi qu’un lieu de confrontations et de dialogues, le laboratoire s’attache à renouveler la lecture de cet espace méditerranéen occidental à la lumière d’approches comparatives et de perspectives historiographiques contemporaines.
À travers ses cinq équipes de recherche, le laboratoire couvre un ensemble de thématiques fondamentales permettant de saisir la complexité des trajectoires méditerranéennes. Il s’intéresse ainsi à l’évolution économique et sociale des sociétés pré-modernes, aux circulations savantes et culturelles qui ont façonné l’universalité du savoir méditerranéen, aux dynamiques politiques et diplomatiques caractérisant l’époque moderne et contemporaine, ainsi qu’aux expressions multiples du patrimoine culturel matériel et immatériel. Parallèlement, il analyse les enjeux de l’État moderne en Algérie, en les inscrivant dans un cadre régional marqué par de profondes recompositions stratégiques.
Le laboratoire aspire à devenir un pôle de référence dans l’étude du bassin occidental de la Méditerranée, en favorisant la coopération scientifique, l’échange entre équipes nationales et internationales, et la production d’un savoir critique à haute valeur ajoutée.
