Pathos Club’s participation in the Pharmex International Conference at the Palais des Congrès – Oran.
The Pathos Club participated in the Pharmex International Conference, held from October 16th to 18th at the Mohamed Ben Ahmed Conference Center in the Méridien Hotel, Oran.
The club’s presentation focused on thalidomide, a drug that marked a significant milestone in the history of the pharmaceutical industry.
The presentation covered the historical and scientific aspects of thalidomide, which was used in the 1950s as a sedative and to treat morning sickness before being withdrawn from the market due to its serious side effects on fetuses. It also addressed its subsequent reintroduction for specific therapeutic purposes, such as multiple myeloma and certain autoimmune diseases, following a reassessment of its pharmacological properties.
Club members presented a 3D model of the drug molecule, illustrating its chemical structure and mechanism of action, and created a scientific poster showcasing key information about the drug and its history.
The club also produced a scientific journal in English, featuring a collection of diverse scientific articles written by student members, addressing pharmaceutical topics in a scientific and systematic manner. This participation reflects Pathos Club’s commitment to contributing to the dissemination of scientific culture and fostering a spirit of research and innovation among medical and pharmaceutical students.
